Gianbattista Bussi is a hydrological risk specialist at RED. From 2014 to 2016 he was a postdoctoral research assistant at School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford (UK), working on the impact of climate change, land-use change and droughts on the water quality of the River Thames (UK). He holds a PhD degree in Water and Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Valencia (Spain), obtained in 2014, with a dissertation on soil erosion and sediment transport modelling. He obtained his BSc (2004) and MSc (2007) in Environmental Engineering at the University of Brescia (Italy).

Gianbattista is interested in flood and drought hazard mapping, fluvial and coastal flood modelling, hydrological modelling and flood risk assessment. His current work is mainly focused on the analysis of flood and drought impacts and risks, as well as on the development of real-time, or near real-time, tools for the rapid assessment of the impacts of severe rainfall events and tropical cyclones. In his work, he employs the most up-to-date techniques for data acquisition and processing, including satellite information and reanalysis products, to estimate the damages caused by natural disasters.
