Carlotta Valerio, PhD
Hydrologist - Catastrophe Risk Modeling
Flood Hazard and Risk Analysis
Carlotta Valerio is an Environmental Engineer who joined RED in 2022. In 2018 she graduated in Environmental and Land Engineering at the University of Trento (Italy), after spending one year in the Technical University of Munich (Germany) as an Erasmus student.
She holds a PhD degree from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), obtained in 2023, with a dissertation on machine learning models aimed at assessing the relationships between anthropogenic pressures and riverine ecosystems. As part of her PhD, she spent a visiting period at the Politecnico of Milano, focusing the research on multi-objective optimization of reservoir operation. Her current work at RED is mainly focused on the development of climate-related hazard maps and flood risk assessment. In her work, she employs Python, QGIS and advanced techniques for acquisition and processing of large datasets.
