Mohsen Kohrangi, PhD
Earthquake Engineer – Catastrophe Risk Modelling
Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis
Mohsen Kohrangi is currently a seismic risk specialist at RED. Since he joined RED in 2016, he has been working on the development of earthquake risk models. Since 2015 he has been a postdoctoral researcher at IUSS Pavia. He holds a PhD in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from The Institute for Advanced Study (IUSS) in Pavia (Italy). He received the prestigious European scholarship for Master of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (MEEES) and completed his program in University of Patras (Greece) and ROSE School in Pavia (Italy). He obtained his MEng degree (2009) in Structural and Earthquake Engineering at the Amirkabir University of Technology (Iran). Prior to starting his journey to Europe he worked in Dynasys structural design consultancy in Tehran for two years since 2007.
His current work is mainly focused on the analysis of earthquakes and tropical cyclones impact and on the development of risk models, focusing especially on the development of vulnerability models, the generation of exposure databases and on the elaboration of loss assessment analyses. His research interests include risk related topics such as performance based earthquake engineering, ground motion record selection, ground motion prediction equations, spectrum matching and portfolio loss estimation.
